Get To Know Your Smut Fairies!

It’s come to my attention that you, dear reader, don’t know much about the ladies of Smut Book Club who contribute to its awesomeness. These contributors are posting on Facebook, keeping the Smut Muffins corralled, and reading all of the books we recommend here on the blog.Get To Know Your Smut Fairies

We are your Smut Fairies!

Think of us as the non-crazy Heidi Fleiss slash non-creepy Hugh Hefner people of your world.

From time-to-time (I was going to say every other week, but let’s be honest — I can’t keep with a schedule), we’ll bring you some fun facts about us. Some of the questions we’re answering were submitted by fellow Smut Muffins and some are ours.

If there’s something about us you’re dying to know, leave the question in the comments.

How did you meet one another?

One of the most-often-asked questions I get is how we all know one another. Truth? I met all of these chicks — aside from Nelle and Solange — through the secret Smut Book Club Facebook group, Smut Muffins. For real. I’ve only recently met them in person, and I still haven’t met Solange. Maybe she’s not even a lady…?

Nelle I met because she was emailing me to tell me which of the release dates I was sharing were incorrect. Then she started a calendar for me. Then she just kind of put herself in my life, and I can’t even tell you how nice it is to have a Nelle in my life. Everyone needs an OCD alpha-female friend like Nelle.

Solange was introduced to me through a mutual friend who told me I should have a gay romance columnist, and thus, the columnists were born! Think of Solange as the Jesus of Smut Book Club.

What was your first one-handed read? (from Kirsten P)

Angie: Actual, for real 1-handed: Conviction by Nicole Edwards. But I’ve been reading “crotch novels” since I was 16.
Nelle:My parents had a book called The Act of Marriage and I snuck it off the bookshelf and (gasp) it made me tingle. After that, it was Harlequin Presents and Silhouette paperbacks by the bagful from the used book store. After that Fifty. And then Beautiful Disaster.
Solange: Hmm… let me think. I think it was The Wolfking by Bridget Wood.
Adrian: Fifty Shades of Grey. I didn’t know about one-handed reading until Christian.
Theresa: My first Erotica was The Sleeping Beauty trilogy by Anne Rice. First book boyfriend, Lucas Davenport in the Prey series by John Sanford! Yummy hot cop!!!
Marissa: Maya Banks’ Colters’ Woman
Lina: The Sleeping Beauty trilogy by Anne Rice. Though, I also diddled to The Vampire Armand (when Marius whips Armand and then licks his wounds–SO HOT). So, really, I should say The Vampire Armand. Either way, Anne Rice wins this one.
Kyleigh Jane: Probably some Danielle Steel novel. BODICE RIPPERS, YO!

What is your biggest pet peeve in a story line? (Jessica M)

Angie: Miscommunication among main characters.
Nelle: The bathroom ambush. I always want to yell at the girls, “It’s a trap!”
Solange: Overly explaining things I already know.
Adrian: I get annoyed with love-at-first-sight stories. I prefer when a couple gets to know each other before they fall in love…give it a week or 3.
Theresa: Whiney chicks!!!
Marissa: Too much unnecessary drama and the main characters never talk to each other to resolve it until THE END.
Lina: No tension and stupid characters doing stupid things. Too much predictability. Inconsistency. Bad editing. I can go on forever.
Kyleigh Jane: Weak, vapid, overly emotional female leads. Stop CRYING about everything! Pull it together, girl.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you take? (Sharon S)

Angie: A friend, electricity, a working toilet
Nelle: A power/satellite internet source, my iPad and my bed
Solange: Jamie Fraser, pen & paper (yes, that’s one thing), a water filter system
Adrian: Wifi, my kindle, Mike Thurston
Theresa: A machete, fire starter, Eddie Vedder (DUH)
Marissa: Water purifier, complete works of Shakespeare, chocolate
Lina: Vibrator, whichever electronic device would allow me access to my kindle library, my dog (no, not for meat)
Kyleigh Jane: A boat to get the hell outa there, my phone (because HELP and also reading/music, googling “how to start a fire with sticks and earthy debris”), my fella.

What’s your day job?

Angie: This is my day job.
Nelle: Systems Trainer
Solange: I’m a gay romance author.
Adrian: I’m a Mom of 2 girls and a Realtor.
Theresa: Yoga instructor
Marissa: Laid-off
Lina: I stay home with my three year old smarty-pants and am currently baking another little smarty-pants who is about to pop out any day now. Literally. Any day.
Kyleigh Jane: Stay-at-Home Mom/Smut Slinger/Occasional Model

What do you read on?

Angie: Kindle Paperwhite (but I have a new Kindle Voyage on order)
Nelle: Whatever is convenient. It may be my iPad, my Galaxy Mega, my Galaxy 3 or my Paperwhite. Paperbacks only when there’s no other option.
Solange: Kindle Paperwhite or paperbacks
Adrian: Kindle Paperwhite
Theresa: Kindle Fire
Marissa: Kindle, phone, paperback
Lina: iPhone–Free Kindle Reading App
Kyleigh Jane: Kindle Fire HD

What’s one thing you love about being a SBC Contributor?

Angie: Being trusted for my recommendation on what to read next; free books (duh); getting to say that I peddle smut for a living, especially in front of my dad’s friends.
Nelle: The community of EXCEPTIONAL women. I feel truly blessed to have each of them in my life.
Solange: Sharing the books I love with you awesome Smuffins.
Adrian: Getting to read much-anticipated books before they’re released.
Theresa: The camaraderie with the girls. Being asked to consult on Lauren Blakely’s new book because of my sex toy knowledge is pretty damn cool, too!
Marissa: Finding new authors I’d never normally read.
Lina: BOOKS. That was a duh answer. So I’ll give you another one–I love being able to expose readers to authors they might not have otherwise noticed.
Kyleigh Jane: Getting books before everyone else! HAHAAAAAA! Gah, I’m a brat. But seriously. That’s pretty dope. Mostly though, the amazing relationships I’ve formed through being a part of this crazy smutty little world <3

And, HELLO? The time Theresa, Adrian, and I got to meet Kristen Ashley!
