New Kindles We Must Have!
True book nerds get squeegasms over new e-reader announcements. Which is why you probably heard me through your computer when I saw the all new Kindles just released!
My personal favorite e-reader is the Kindle Paperwhite. Its glow light, touchscreen, and lightweightness is perfect for someone like me who reads late at night or in the car. I highly recommend it for anyone who reads a few times a week or more.
And now, there are even more Kindle goodies to recommend! I haven’t yet put my grabby hands on them, but you better believe I’ll be sitting by the door to greet the hot UPS man on October 21st when he hands me my new Kindle Voyage.
Before we get into the details of the new pretties, here are answers to questions I get regarding which e-reader to buy:
Do I need 3G or am I good with Wi-Fi only?
Unless you travel extensively or don’t have access to Wi-Fi, get the Wi-Fi-only Kindle.
What are Special Offers and will I see ads while I read?
Amazon offers a Kindle that is $20 less than a standard e-reader which will show you ads for books and Kindle accessories on the screensaver and on your main bookshelf. You WILL NOT see ads while you read. I’ve had both the Special Offer Kindle and one without, and I really can’t tell the difference. If you want to save $20, get the Special Offer Kindle.
Why a Kindle and not a Nook or iPad?
Amazon is the leader in e-book retail, offering books that aren’t available from other retailers like Barnes & Noble and iBooks. Most authors and publishers offer sales and free books more often to their Kindle books than the to other retailers.
- If you have an iPad or tablet and don’t want to get a new device, download the FREE Kindle Reading App, and you can get every Kindle book and most features available on Kindle devices. Personally, the iPad (or other tablets) are too heavy for hardcore reading holding, which is why I prefer the Paperwhite.
- If you have a Nook Color, download the FREE Kindle Reading App and get the same features as what is available for iPad. (NOTE: I don’t recommend a Nook Color because it has been announced that BN will no longer be manufacturing the tablet.)
- If you have an iPhone or other smartphone, download the FREE Kindle Reading App to read anywhere you take your phone. I know many people who use their phones as their primary e-reader, but for me, the small size is cumbersome.
