Shameless Sit-Down With Kristen Proby
Q: In Easy Melody we spent some time with some old friends (not to give too much away). Will we visit with other old friends in the future?
I’m not sure. It’s usually a surprise to me while I’m writing the book. I wouldn’t rule it out, but I also wouldn’t count on it. How’s that for vague?
I don’t think it’s lessons as much as it’s just growing as a writer. I hope that my writing is improving and evolving with each book.
Q: You’ve written all different kinds of heroes. Is there a particular hero type that you find especially challenging?
Every hero is a challenge because they’re all different. I think it’s interesting to try to get inside the head of a man, to see things through his eyes, and react the way a man would. It’s one of the most enjoyable parts of the process for me.
Q: The women in your book are always modern, successful and relatable. Where do you find inspiration for them?
Honestly, I just write women that I’d like to be friends with. If I like them and root for them, the reader will too.
Q: Each of your series have centered around a very specific locale. When planning a series, do you start with the location or the characters?
It all seems to come together organically. When I plan a new series, I really sit down and look at the big picture: setting, plot and characters.
Q: What’s the weirdest or most interesting gift you’ve received from a reader?
I can’t think of anything that’s been particularly weird or different. I’m always surprised by the homemade gifts, and how much time readers put into crafting them. It’s humbling and so sweet.
Q: What’s your favorite thing in your closet?
Q: Coffee or Tea?
Q: Wine: White, Red, or Pink?
Q: Favorite childhood board game?
I hate board games.
Q: Cupcakes or brownies?
Can’t I have both?
Q: Favorite TV show of all time?
Q: If you could have any superpower, which would you choose?
Hmm… I want to fly. I think.
Q: Most outrageous note from your editor?
I plead the fifth.
Q: Favorite magazine?
Q: Favorite guilty pleasure book?
No book is a guilty pleasure.
