*Swoon* Alpha male (aka King of the Lykae) finally meets his mate, and proceeds to scare her, woo her, fight with her, fall in love with her and finally help rescue her. And to top it off, Lachlain has a Scottish accent you just can’t help hearing in your head as you read his conversations. Emma is sweet, naive, and the total opposite of what Lachlain had expected for his one, true mate. He eventually succumbs to her sweet charms and the mating urge to take care of her no matter the cost. The sex was hot as Lachlain tries to reign in his beast, because he realizes how fragile Emma is but once she becomes comfortable with him, she teases him right back. I love how the author gives you glimpses into both of their thoughts, then will move to a scene with her family.

This whole series tends to revolve around the Lykae, Vampires, and the Valkyrie, and I enjoy learning about each one as the author creates new scenes to highlight their differences. The world building and overall story arc is engaging, suspenseful, and grabs your hand to drag you on to the next scene. Kresley Cole is a wonderful story creator, she is definitely up there with JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood in overall world and character building for me.

Publisher Synopsis

via Amazon

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her . . .

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy . . .

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents -- until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae -- and their notorious dark desires -- ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire . . .

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

GENRE

My first foray into the Romance genre came my freshman year in high school English, where the teacher had us all read books from several different genres. So, my first book boyfriend and PnR introduction, if you will, was Richard Merlin, from The Wizard of Seattle. Prior to that, I’d only read Fantasy or Sci-fi, with a little teen horror thrown in for angst. I was reading The Vampire Diaries decades before it was even a twinkle in the eyes of the producers. Now, I am addicted to PnR, always reading at least one book a week about vamps, wolves, angels, demons, Fae, or overall magic.

I LOVE this book series, I just pre-ordered Dark Skye… shame I have to wait until August! But, definitely worth the wait, maybe I’ll reread the series to catch up :) (I did that with BDB and it is so worth it!)
