Seducing Lauren by Kristen Proby
I love Kristen Proby's take on modern romance, and Seducing Lauren is no exception. I was really pleased to see the move away from Western for this series and back to the Contemporary Romance genre. Lauren is dealing with some stuff — some ex-husband stuff, some secret job stuff — and doesn't have time to deal with Ty and his hot-tattooed-lawyerness. The story took some twists and turns that I was not expecting, and Kristen's quality dialogue keeps it moving along. This small town tale was modern and relatable. Nice work! [August 2014]
“The smut books? Yeah.” Zack rolls his eyes.
“Hey don’t knock the smut books,” Josh informs his brother, wiggling his eyebrows. “They’re really good inspiration.”

Zack: Loving Cara
“No,” Zack simply says.
“And she lied when she said that you didn’t want to talk to me on the phone.”
“She did,” Zack agrees. “I suppose that’s why you refused to take my calls all these past months?
Seth nods and sniffles again.
“And just now, when you thought there was a bomb, you were trying to save me.”
“Seth, I’ll probably always react that way to loud noises. It’s just habit.” Zack shrugs uncomfortably, but Seth is shaking his head adamantly.
“You were trying to save me.”
“I was,” Zack whispers, still looking his boy in the eye.
“I’m sorry, Daddy.” He wraps his arms around Zack’s neck again and holds on tight. Finally, Josh leans down and murmurs in both of their ears, and they stand and walk back to our group.
Zack sits on Seth’s blanket and his son sits beside him, leaning his head on his shoulder. “Can I watch the fireworks with you?”
“Damn, that kid breaks my heart,” Jill murmurs and I nod in agreement.
“Yeah, we’ll watch them from here,” Zack replies.
