Shameless Recommendation

Marissa Not So PNR Mini Banner Kristen Ashley has wooed me with her characters again. Zara and Ham together were sweet and hot, and I loved how Ham was so supportive of Zara. Even though he’d been gone from her life for a few years, things picked up almost like times hadn’t changed, Ham working to show Zara he was the man of her dreams. We get a lot of focus on Ham and Zara’s relationship, their ups and downs and histories that shaped how they see love. There wasn’t as much drama or suspense as the previous books in the series, and for me, it was a nice change up. Another must-read from this Elite author. [September 2014]

An old flame rekindled . . .

Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn't interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara's lost her business, her marriage, and she's barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of willpower she possesses to resist all that he offers.

Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man.

JAGGED Excerpt

‰ÛÏYou‰Ûªve been waiting for me to come to you?‰Û

‰ÛÏBabe, you‰Ûªre my Zara, my cookie, so fuck yeah, I‰Ûªve been bidin‰Ûª my time, givin‰Ûª you space to sort your head out, but waitin‰Ûª to get you back, as in‰Û‰ÛÓhis hand slid up to cup my jaw and his face dipped closer‰ÛÓ‰ÛÏback.‰Û

Was he serious? Two months…no seven, if you counted when he came back after hatchet man got to him, I‰Ûªd been in misery and he‰Ûªd been waiting to get me back?

I felt my eyes narrow.

‰ÛÏLast night, you rolled off me and didn‰Ûªt say a word about a chat before you went to the bathroom,‰Û I reminded him.

‰ÛÏZara, what we shared, so good, so hot, so close, us bein‰Ûª back to us, didn‰Ûªt feel I needed to say a word,‰Û he replied.

Was he for real? ‰ÛÏBack to us‰Û and he didn‰Ûªt feel he needed to say a word?

‰ÛÏWell, you did,‰Û I stated.

‰ÛÏI see that now,‰Û he returned.

Okay, then, time for a different subject.

‰ÛÏYou said you didn‰Ûªt want my body,‰Û I accused.

‰ÛÏI lied, Zara. Fuck, when have I ever not wanted in there?‰Û he asked, a question that had one answer, that being never.

But he didn’t give me the chance to give that answer, he kept talking. ‰ÛÏI would have said anything to get you out of that shithole, get you safe, and get you with me.‰Û

‰ÛÏYou lied?‰Û I asked.

‰ÛÏI lied,‰Û Ham answered.

‰ÛÏLied?‰Û My voice was getting higher.

‰ÛÏAsked and answered, darlin‰Ûª,‰Û he clipped.

‰ÛÏSo you thought it was a good idea to lie,‰Û I noted unhappily.

‰ÛÏBabe, I came to you, we almost instantly got up in each other‰Ûªs shit. åÊYou had a lot you were dealin‰Ûª with and one of those things didn‰Ûªt need to be me. åÊYou weren’t lettin‰Ûª anyone do anything for you. You needed time to deal. I wanted you with me. I did what I had to do to give you that and make that happen for me.‰Û

My head gave a jerk as what he said tardily hit me.

‰ÛÏYou wanted me with you?‰Û

He was beginning to look impatient.

‰ÛÏYou‰Ûªve known me years. I ever go back?‰Û he asked.

‰ÛÏGo back to what?‰Û

‰ÛÏGo back anywhere.‰Û

‰ÛÏHam‰ÛӉ۝

‰ÛÏI don‰Ûªt go back,‰Û he declared.

‰ÛÏI don‰Ûªt get‰ÛӉ۝

‰ÛÏNow I‰Ûªm back in Gnaw Bone, back at The Dog, babe, why do you think that is?‰Û

I didn‰Ûªt speak. I was back to staring.

Because I knew why I wanted that to be.

I just rarely got what I wanted.

Then Graham Reece finally gave me what I wanted.

‰ÛÏBecause you‰Ûªre here.‰Û

‰ÛÏHoly shit,‰Û I whispered.

He stopped looking impatient, his eyes warmed, his face went soft, and his lips twitched.

But, ‰ÛÏYeah,‰Û was all he said.

GENRE

My first foray into the Romance genre came my freshman year in high school English, where the teacher had us all read books from several different genres. So, my first book boyfriend and PnR introduction, if you will, was Richard Merlin, from The Wizard of Seattle. Prior to that, I’d only read Fantasy or Sci-fi, with a little teen horror thrown in for angst. I was reading The Vampire Diaries decades before it was even a twinkle in the eyes of the producers. Now, I am addicted to PnR, always reading at least one book a week about vamps, wolves, angels, demons, Fae, or overall magic.
