So, it's basically Christmas morning, yeah? We've all read Night Owl. (squints, looks out over the room, scans for stragglers who've somehow missed it… yes, I see you there in the back. honey, it's time. go read.) Anyway. Where was I?… Oh yes, Christmas morning. So we've opened all the little doors on our little Night Owl advent calendars, nestled ourselves all snug in our beds, with visions of a Matt and Hannah dancing in our heads. Then finally, finally, the wait is over. We open our eyes and our Kindles, and Last Light is here!

CHRISTMAS.
FREAKING.
MORNING.

You know when you're super bouncy-spazzy-excited about a book, you almost worry if it's just… there's no way it could possibly live up to your lofty expectations, and you ultimately end up feeling a bit disappointed?
Yeah, Last Light isn't like that at all.
It's a sharp, conflicted, roller-coaster ride of expertly written guts and feels, suspense and deception, and scenes so breathtakingly erotic, I may have developed carpal tunnel syndrome…
*ahem*

I wrestled with how to review and recommend this book. Whether to give you the fun/playful review, where I roll around on the floor licking and petting my kindle just saying "Oh God" over and over again, or the smart literary review where I would touch on the depth and discord, the venom and vulnerability, the passion and duplicity, the relationships between The Brothers Sky, and how truly, exceptionally crafted this story is.

I guess I'll settle somewhere in the middle by telling you that Last Light will take you everywhere. You'll be twisted up, turned on, wrung out, love it, hate it, curse it, embrace it, laugh and cry and kick it in the shin, and never want it to end.

And that?…
Well, that's a damn good book.

Kyleigh Jane is not wrong when she says waiting for this book was like waiting for Christmas morning. The anticipation was out of control. And, thank the Goddess above, it delivered! Matt Sky is still bat-shit crazy. Hannah is still head over heels in love with him. Nate is still awesome. And now we get Seth, the other Sky brother…. gorgeous and a bit scary.

There's so much going on in this book, it was, at times, hard to wrap my head around it all. It's crazy and sexy and emotional and sexy. And did I mention the molten hot sex? Molten. Hot. Read it, and then we can all wait together until next Christmas. [October 2014]

Publisher Synopsis

via Amazon

Matt Sky is missing. After a solo ascent of Longs Peak that left only a large blood stain, tatters of climbing clothing, and the tracks of an animal in the snow, he is presumed dead.

Hannah Catalano is guarding a secret: she knows Matt is alive. After Matt's memorial service, she lingers on the East Coast with his family, but it soon becomes clear that his brothers' motives are less than gracious. Nate Sky is bent on tracking down the author of Night Owl, a book that charts the last days of Matt's life with uncanny and scandalous accuracy, and which appeared only after his death. Seth Sky is bent on getting Hannah into his bed.

Hidden away in the woods, Matt and Hannah strive desperately to maintain their ruse and their relationship—but their web of lies only tightens as Matt struggles with the consequences of his decision, and Hannah tries to escape Nate's libel suit and fend off Seth's advances...until Hannah is put in danger, and Matt must make a life or death choice.

[su_quote]”What do you think you are, Hannah, a player in his game? The queen to his king?” He lowered his head so that his mouth hovered beside my ear. He pressed against my thigh and I felt the hard length of his dick. “You’re a class A drug.”[/su_quote]

GENRE

I suppose I was introduced to romance at an early age. When I was around 10 years old, I happened upon a highlighted and dog eared copy of “The Joy Of Sex” on my mother’s bookshelf. I was shocked. I was fascinated. Maybe it was the 1970s power muffs, maybe it was the mustaches, maybe it was phrases such as “tongue bath”, who knows. As a teen, hiding Danielle Steel and VC Andrews paperbacks, I think I was drawn to reading romance/erotica because I felt like I was reading something I wasn't supposed to. Something forbidden. As an adult, I enjoy the truth of love. The triumph and tragedy. The build and the break. I'm drawn to stories with grit, and substance, and meat on their bones. The format breakers, the unusual. I’m always searching for that next great read. The story that burrows deep into your guts, and changes you.
