Forgive me Smuffins, for I have sinned. I have been sitting on these books for a while, and I've wanted to recommend them to you because you deserve to know about the brilliance that is the Power Exchange Series. Truth? I couldn't find the words to tell you how badly I needed you to read these books. They're dark, and they hurt, and they hurt for a long time after you put them down--but in a good way. I still don't know how to tell you that you can't miss out on these books if you like BDSM, mysteries, or just simply well-written, soul-devouring, heart-rending books. They broke me, and I haven't managed to entirely put myself back together again. (I'm getting teary eyed just reading through my highlighted quotes, I seriously can't deal with all these feelings *flies into the sun*)

***Warning*** the third book is by far the darkest I've read in this genre. The author warns for graphic violence and rape, and these are no idle warnings. It's brutal. If this is not your thing, by all means, enjoy the first two books, which are still dark, but didn't push my limits like Consent did. [October 2014]

Publisher Synopsis

via Amazon

Everywhere Detective Gavin DeGrassi looks he’s reminded of his attack by the Breath Play Killer. It’s in the house he lives in with his partner and Dom, Ben Haverson. It’s in the sympathetic yet pitying looks he receives from his fellow detectives when he returns to the force after a year-long hiatus. It’s in the suffocating coddling of his entire family, and the relentless reporter demanding an exclusive of his ordeal.

Most of all, it’s in his lack of submission to Ben, who isn’t convinced Gavin’s recovered enough to trust the power exchange between them.

The miraculous recovery of two teen boys from a twisted kidnapper gives him heart, and Gavin's determined to prove he can handle anything despite increasing strain between him and Ben, painful nightmares, and panic when anyone touches him.

But his next case is too close for comfort: a friend and colleague found raped and murdered in a fate chillingly similar to what could have been his own, and this killer isn’t stopping with one cop. As the body count rises and taunting souvenirs are being hand-delivered to Gavin, he faces a frustrating lack of leads, a crushing need to prove himself, and a sinking suspicion the imprisoned kidnapper’s reach is further than originally thought. A miasma of uncertainty and fear threaten to suffocate him when he asks a question with which he’s overwhelmingly familiar: what happens when a victim is pushed too far?

He didn’t think me weak, or unfocused, or a burden because of my scattered emotions. He was entrenched in them with me, and I was free to show them, to release them, and let them go. — Power Exchange
Getting someone to fly with me, taking submission for the gift it is–that’s a heady thing. It makes my nerves sing and my heart beat fast. Gets me hard and I feel like I can do anything. And that feeling is a pittance compared to being with you.” — Safeword

Though Solange has moved on from Shameless Book Club and is living somewhere in Europe, we're gladly keeping her recommendations alive and published because they were just that good. --- Solange reads and writes gay romance like it’s her job — because it is. She likes her heroes and heroines tortured and horny, her plots juicy and riddled with angst, and rarely passes up the opportunity to add in some hurt and comfort. When she’s not reading or writing, Solange rides horses, hikes around Michigan’s plentiful lakes or whizzes down mountains with a snowboard to her feet. She’s a speed-junky, a caffeine addict and a dog lover. If you’d like to get in touch, email her here. She doesn’t bite, unless that floats your boat.

Completely started these books based on your recommendation. I’m on book two now and so far I competely agree, they are setting the bar high. The warnings on book three are making me all kinds of nervous but I wonder if I’ll miss a whole level to the awesome connection between the main characters if I don’t read it.

It’s still on my mind, that’s for sure. The third book certainly tamped down the happy feeling I got from the second, and you can definitely leave the third if you don’t want that to happen. Book 3 has a happy ending, but I personally didn’t walk away from it thinking all was 100% well.
