I was not a face. I was tired of being called pretty. I was tired of people seeing my potential. I could be whoever I wanted to be, and for now, that was a bartender. Beauty was deceiving in the same way credit cards were. It felt like it was free, but there was  high interest with little return.
“I’m not an asshole,” he said. “I’m a heartless romantic.” “What’s the difference?” He thought about it. “I believe. But without proof.”
People die. We are not permanent. We have to hurry if we want things.
It’s not true what they say, that you can only give your heart away once.  That’s the philosophy of the young. The old know better, they know it’s not the heart that you give away, but the mind. Fuck… shit… the mind is a powerful thing. It controls the heart, but most people don’t know that.

Easy MelodyQ: In Easy Melody we spent some time with some old friends (not to give too much away). Will we visit with other old friends in the future?

I’m not sure. It’s usually a surprise to me while I’m writing the book. I wouldn’t rule it out, but I also wouldn’t count on it. How’s that for vague?

Q: What lesson (or lessons) did you learn from writing your previous series (With Me in Seattle or Love Under the Big Sky) that you are implementing in the Boudreaux series?

I don’t think it’s lessons as much as it’s just growing as a writer. I hope that my writing is improving and evolving with each book.

Q: You’ve written all different kinds of heroes. Is there a particular hero type that you find especially challenging?

Every hero is a challenge because they’re all different. I think it’s interesting to try to get inside the head of a man, to see things through his eyes, and react the way a man would. It’s one of the most enjoyable parts of the process for me.

Q: The women in your book are always modern, successful and relatable. Where do you find inspiration for them?

Honestly, I just write women that I’d like to be friends with. If I like them and root for them, the reader will too.

Q: Each of your series have centered around a very specific locale. When planning a series, do you start with the location or the characters?

It all seems to come together organically. When I plan a new series, I really sit down and look at the big picture: setting, plot and characters.

Q: What’s the weirdest or most interesting gift you’ve received from a reader?

I can’t think of anything that’s been particularly weird or different. I’m always surprised by the homemade gifts, and how much time readers put into crafting them. It’s humbling and so sweet.

“I’m going to fuck you like no one else ever has.”
Charly runs to the back to find my size, then returns a moment later with a box. “These are pretty,” she says.
Declan takes the box from her, pulls the stuffing out of a shoe, then kneels before me and drags his hand down the back of my leg, behind my knee, to my calf. “Give me your foot, sweetheart.”
I brace myself on his shoulder and offer him my naked foot, which he slips into the grey shoe. But before I can put it on the floor, he leans in and presses a kiss to my ankle.
I wonder how Charly would feel about her brother fucking me right here, in the shoe store? Because I’m about to climb him.
Jesus, the things this man can do with just his hands and lips should be illegal in Louisiana.

One of those big hands ran over his short hair and I swear my sex wept in gratitude at the sight. I was out of control. If he fondled his beard I might faint.
He ground his face into me, eating me, going wild, and it felt fucking amazing. Mind-blowing, breath-stealing. Everything. I got it now. Beards were the best. His tongue was like a lick of heat, his lips silken smooth and so damn strong. That beard, however. Holy shit. Too many sensations, too much, and all I could do was take it.
His chest was so pretty. So hard and big and stuff, it made my IQ drop to my shoe size. Everything about him did. The bearded sex machine turned me into a stuttering fool. Sad but true.
“You got my dick on a leash. Might as well have the rest of me.”
“No touching yourself,” he ordered in a low, gruff voice. “Getting you off is my job now. You need me, call. Get to you as soon as I can, okay?”

It was like drowning, that kiss the medium in which my body, my soul was suspended, that kiss touching every cell of my skin, every hair follicle on my body, filling my mouth, my throat, my lungs until I couldn’t breathe, until my consciousness started to dim and blur in dizzy euphoria.
