So you want to go to #Shameless19, but you’re not sure you can afford it?
Or you’re definitely going to #Shameless19, and you are itching to add some Disney time into your trip but not sure how to cover the added expense?
Or maybe you’d just like to have a bit more spending money once you get to Orlando in October?
I’m here to help you save up for your trip to Disney World by sharing my secrets on growing my vacation stash!
There are two super easy ways to save up some extra spending money before Shameless in October:
1. Saving by shopping through cash-back apps BEFORE your trip, putting extra cash in your piggy bank
2. Save money on everything you purchase AT Disney by using some smart shopping strategies to buy Disney gift cards ahead of your trip
This post is Part One, which will show you how to put some extra cash in your pocket. Part Two will be in a separate post published in a few days that will cover the best way to maximize your savings when you buy Disney gift cards for your trip.
There are so many cashback apps available, and thankfully, most of them are super easy and safe to use.
Some will securely connect your bank cards to your account and automatically give you cash back on eligible transactions.
Others are sites you check before you do your online shopping, and they automatically give you a percentage back on your eligible purchases. Some of the sites even have utility bars that you can add to your web browser so that offers are activated automatically.
You download the app and connect your credit and debit cards to your account. And then you forget all about it!
When you use your cards at eligible merchants, you get cash back in your Dosh account. Once you have earned $25, you can cash out by sending your money to your Paypal account or even directly into your bank account. That’s it!
And if you use this code to sign up, they will put $5 in your account just for connecting your first card.
I use Swagbucks on the computer, but they have an app as well. With this one, there are numerous ways to earn their currency, called Swagbucks, which can then be redeemed for gift cards at various places, including Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and even Visa gift cards. (If you use these gift cards to purchase Disney gift cards, it’s like getting that part of your vacation for free!)
You can take surveys (although this can be time-consuming, as most are looking for a target group and it can be difficult to qualify), watch videos, play games, print coupons, and shop through their links to earn Swagbucks. They even post links daily that, if you go to the website and get a code, and then copy and paste it in to Swagbucks app, give you free points.
I have the Swagbucks toolbar on my web browser, and any time I go to a website that can earn me Swagbucks, a pop-up comes up allowing me to activate my Swagbucks account while I shop, and I earn points. (Still need convincing? Check out this review to find out if Swagbucks is worth it.)
Sign up for Swagbucks, and you will usually get 30 Swagbucks to start you off on your way to earning rewards!
Go here to download the button to your browser.
Like Swagbucks, Ebates has a toolbar that you can add onto your browser (it works on Chrome and Safari), and it automatically pops up with the offer to activate when you make a purchase on an eligible site.
Ebates doesn’t have the surveys and videos that Swagbucks has, and you will only earn cash here if you are shopping online. But with the toolbar popping up when you go to an eligible site, it is easy to use.
One thing I love about Ebates is that they automatically send you a check the month after your account gets over $5. You don’t even have to remember to log in to collect your rewards!
Sign up for Ebates with the link below, and you’ll get $10 in your account with your first purchase!
With Shopkick, you download the app, and get “kicks” for walking into certain stores, scanning items while you are in there, buying eligible items with a linked card, and scanning receipts with eligible items on them.
You can also shop online from home and watch videos in the app to get kicks. Then you redeem your kicks for gift cards at places like Amazon, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and numerous other popular retailers.
What I love about Shopkick is that it works at a lot of drug stores like CVS and Walgreens. If you’re an avid couponer like me, there are always good coupon deals going on at the drug store. This gets you a good return on your shopping time. You then turn in your kicks to buy Disney gift cards and get part of your trip for free!
One more tool that is worth mentioning, that works like the others to to get you cash back, but also searches for coupon codes when you go to eligible websites to make sure that you are getting the best price, is Honey.
Like Swagbucks and Ebates, you can install the Honey extension onto your internet browser, and any time you are at a site that Honey knows coupon codes for, it will automatically search and make sure you are getting your purchase for the best price.
You will also earn “Honey Gold” that can be redeemed for – you guessed it – gift cards at a bunch of popular merchants, including Walmart, Target and Amazon!
