I’m not shy about telling anyone and everyone I know who reads smut to read Tiffany Reisz’s The Original Sinners books. Hell, I even convinced my husband—a devout non-smut-reader—to read The Siren and The Angel. I still haven’t dragged him away from his superhero graphic novels and Game of Thrones books to get him to brave The Prince and The Mistress, but I hold out hope.
Tiffany will be the first to tell you that her books aren’t for everyone. They’re not. They’re for people who enjoy good story-writing, intense sexual situations, and emotionally charged relationships. In addition to the novels in her 8-part The Original Sinners series—The Mistress being book 4—she authors novellas that are available for sale and short stories available for free on her website. Characters in the stories are intertwined and each reference other stories in the series.
To say The Original Sinners stories are must-reads would be an understatement. If I could make them required reading for college courses and anyone who can read past an 11th grade reading level, I would. Much like the Star Wars Saga, The Original Sinners is presented out of order. To help with your understanding of the timeline, I’ve created this handy chart:
After the cliffhanger ending of The Prince, I considered mailing myself to Tiffany’s front door, demanding she hand over the manuscript for The Mistress in order for my pharmaceutically-managed sanity to return. Luckily for me, however, as a Smut Book Enthusiast and
High-Powered Professional Book Recommender, I had the good fortune of getting to read The Mistress several weeks ago. Unfortunately for Tiffany, that meant she didn’t get my smiling face gracing her front door step.
With quotes like these that make my insides quiver, I can’t not love it.[su_quote]“Søren isn’t nice. But he’s good.”
“Good? How good?”
“He’s the best man on earth.”[/su_quote] [su_quote]“Your son gave me five stars last night. And five fingers.”[/su_quote] [su_quote]She felt pleasure with other men, ecstasy even sometimes…but only when Søren was inside her did she feel whole.[/su_quote]
I give it infinity stars.
The Mistress is officially my favorite book of the 2nd half of 2013.[divider]
Because Tiffany is known for having no shame and being the Queen of Kink in the smut book world, I figured I’d do the opposite of what I normally do with 5 Awkward Questions and ask Tiffany 5 Vanilla Questions. Props to my vanilla sister, Jackie, for her help on these. You can blame her for the Babysitters Club reference.
1) What’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever done for someone else? And why did you do it?
Oh Lord. I didn’t want this to get out, but it’s really the only nice thing I’ve done ever. I’m a horrible person in general. I got the most heartbreaking email this February from a woman whose best friend was dying of ovarian cancer. Her friend was obsessively reading and re-reading The Original Sinners series because she wanted to figure out how the series would end before she died. She knew she would die before The Mistress came out, but she was at peace with that. Her friend emailed me only to say thank you for giving her friend a distraction during her last days. So I had a friend of mine who works at a printshop print out the rough draft of The Mistress. We mailed it to her so the ladies could find out what happened to Nora. The young lady died two days after finishing the end of The Mistress. She was buried with the book. The pictures of her clutching The Mistress and crying when she received it are beyond precious to me.
2) Which do you like most and why: Unicorns or Mermaids?
I like unicorns because of The Last Unicorn! It’s one of my favorite fucked-up movies and books ever. But mermaids are amazing too because of The Little Mermaid. You know what would be the awesome-est—a mermaid unicorn!
3) What’s your favorite flavor candy?
Cherry. I love cherry anything. Swedish fish please?
4) Whose Tiger Beat cover did you have on your wall as a teenager?
5) Who do you most relate to: Kristy, Mary Ann, Claudia, or Stacie?
Who are these people? Did I bang them? Or kill them?
BONUS: What’s your signature color: Blush or Bashful?
Signature color? Is this a make-up question? I don’t know make-up stuff. I wear a lot of eyeliner.
DOUBLE BONUS: What are three adjectives would you use to describe the perfect kiss?
Fast. Breaking. Slider. Wait…those are baseball pitches.[divider]
