    Our Recommendation

Carian Cole knows how to write a tortured hero, and Evan was a heartbreakingly perfect character who has to fight his inner demons before he can finally commit to the love of his life. Piper has her heart stomped on and she knows that she will always love Evan, and never wavers in her love. She cannot imagine her life without Evan, even as he fights his depression and drug use, but she also tries to take care of him in any way she can. It’s sad and angsty watching them through the years trying to reach their HEA, but I loved every word. My heart was ripped out right along Piper’s, but it was repaired by the end. This is one of Carian’s longest books, a whopping 65 chapters to break you, uplift you, make you cry, but also sympathize with both characters as they navigate the years together and apart.

The people we love are thieves.
They steal our hearts. They steal our breath.

    And we let them.
Over and over and over again.

They say you never forget your first time.
Mine was with a homeless musician who effed my brains out under a bridge.

He was my first love. And fourteen years later, I still can’t get him out of my head.

    He broke all my rules.
    He also broke my heart.

I watched him climb to stardom, cheering him on from afar.
But I was never a fan; just a girl in love.

Like a tornado, he spiraled, leaving a path of destruction in his wake.

But love conquers all, right? It has to. Because here I stand, ravaged and ruined, needing it to be true.

You can’t go back, but I want to. Back to the bridge. Back to when he sang only for me. Before he was famous. Before he shattered my heart.

I thought I knew everything about him.
But I could not have been more wrong.

He promised me every tomorrow. And here I am, waiting.
    And hoping.
    Again.

Just as I'm on the verge of climaxing, he pulls his mouth away and looks up at me with a lusty grin. "You don't get to come yet," he scolds in a raspy voice. "I want this little pussy to come all over my cock."
He lowers me onto the bed and removes my clothes like he'd unwrap an unexpected gift. Slow. Quiet. Intent. His mouth and hands explore. Reclaiming what he never lost.
"You're the strongest chick I've ever met. A weak woman would never be able to love me. You're a fuckin' warrior."

My first foray into the Romance genre came my freshman year in high school English, where the teacher had us all read books from several different genres. So, my first book boyfriend and PnR introduction, if you will, was Richard Merlin, from The Wizard of Seattle. Prior to that, I’d only read Fantasy or Sci-fi, with a little teen horror thrown in for angst. I was reading The Vampire Diaries decades before it was even a twinkle in the eyes of the producers. Now, I am addicted to PnR, always reading at least one book a week about vamps, wolves, angels, demons, Fae, or overall magic.
