Recommendation
This is my first time reading Jessica Hawkins and this book did not disappoint! The build up of this romance was angsty and frustrating in all the right ways… we’re talking 70% in before they finally get down to business, LOL! The workplace enemies-to-lovers trope is a hard one to do uniquely, but that’s exactly what you get with this story. The characters have a depth and complexity I was not expecting with just enough witty banter and quirks to keep things interesting. Cocky bad boy, full of heart with a compelling history meets tough, independent woman with secret insecurities, but who refuses to bend her dreams for any man… sprinkle in some humorous and endearing supporting friends and what you’ve got is some highly enjoyable literary entertainment!
Excerpts
" I should not have called you anything as simple as beautiful. It's too mild a word. You're the stuff of dreams."
"Don't make me spank you the way I've fantasized."
It turned out life was full of thin lines. They formed tenuous tightropes between loving and hating, mating and dating… life and death.
Publisher synopsis
From USA Today bestselling author Jessica Hawkins comes a witty workplace romance standalone filled with smart enemies-to-lovers banter and loads of inconvenient attraction…
There’s a thin line between love and hate . . . and it cuts right through the middle of their office.
Bad boys run right over good girls like Georgina Keller, but after a confidence-shattering breakup, she’s determined not to let anyone at her new workplace push her around. Especially not the brooding creative director, a “bad boy of publishing” who’s made it clear she’s enemy #1.
Sebastian Quinn's taste for fast cars, late nights, and beautiful women may have gotten him to the top of a leading New York magazine, but the reputation that made him is suddenly threatening to end his career. And even though everyone says pretty, pint-sized Georgina is there to help, he can’t help thinking she’s hoping to land the final blow—and maybe even his job.
Georgina can help Modern Man shed its bad reputation, but in order to do that, she’ll have to start at the top—and no amount of rakish charm or inconvenient attraction will distract her.
