Recommendation

I was gifted a copy of this book, so I got to read the hardcover version which was a nice change of pace! I have read a few other stories by Jayne Ann Krentz so Quinton Zane is not a stranger to me and I was happy to have closure to his story. Jack becomes obsessive almost with his case because of his past and will not stop until he has come full circle regarding Quinton. Winter Meadows helps him through a lot of the inner struggles and demons he is fighting, and their dynamic proves to be a lot more useful then he originally intended. I wanted a little more out of the ending but overall, a solid story.

Excerpts

She smiled a wicked smile. "You are incredibly sexy. I knew you'd be a terrific lover. Your turn. What was it about me that made you fall in love?"
"Everything."
The kiss was inferno-hot and soul-deep. It swept over her and through her, a storm of energy and intoxicated her senses. She had been in a self-imposed trace for most of her adult life, afraid to trust a lover with her deepest secrets. But Jack's kiss shattered the invisible barrier that she had erected to protect her heart. The past and the future did not magically disappear but for now they could be set aside.
She was about to warn him that if they waited for her to climax first they might be there indefinitely, But before she could get the words out of her mouth he did something amazing with his fingers.
And she was lost.

Publisher synopsis

A man's quest to find answers for those who are haunted by the past leads him deeper into the shadows in this electrifying New York Times bestseller from the author of Promise Not to Tell.

Quinton Zane is back.

Jack Lancaster, consultant to the FBI, has always been drawn to the coldest of cold cases, the kind that law enforcement either considers unsolvable or else has chalked up to accidents or suicides. As a survivor of a fire, he finds himself uniquely compelled by arson cases. His almost preternatural ability to get inside the killer's head has garnered him a reputation in some circles–and complicated his personal life. The more cases Jack solves, the closer he slips into the darkness. His only solace is Winter Meadows, a meditation therapist. After particularly grisly cases, Winter can lead Jack back to peace.

But as long as Quinton Zane is alive, Jack will not be at peace for long. Having solidified his position as the power behind the throne of his biological family's hedge fund, Zane sets out to get rid of Anson Salinas's foster sons, starting with Jack.
