Recommendation
This book is filled with ALL the angst and it was amazing! What a kick-ass debut novel by Hollis Wynn! Carrigan is such a relatable character to the point where I saw myself making the same choices she was faced to make. We’ve all been in a low place with a significant other, missing red flags and believing lies we know are out of desperation. She is broken and bruised and is on a new journey searching for hope and renewal and I wanted it for her SO badly! That speaks to the writing and depth of character development throughout this book. Whit made me feel ALL the things, including rage and I am not sure how I feel about him even at the end. Carrigan deserved true happiness and I really hope her story continues past this book because I would love to see how she grows from here, after everything that came her way. Also, be prepared to fall in love with the secondary charters! They were amazing!
Excerpts
Whit maneuvers his body out of the booth and leans down to give me a quick kiss before he excuses himself and heads to the restroom. He has the most delectable, plump ass. The jeans hug him in all the right places and his legs look a mile long. His shirt shows off strong shoulders and a fit body. He exudes power. Sex. Sin. He’s the epitome of a fantasy man. The kind that I fall asleep reading about. The kind I want to curl up with forever. The kind I want to be my forever.
“I’m not a virgin, but I’m also not experienced in this arena. Not to mention, I’m not sure I’ve ever had an orgasm,” I blurt out as fast as possible and all in one breath. Sigh.
There it is. The sound of someone who isn’t judging me. His laugh is everything. Although I told him not to laugh, I can’t help but smile.
“Don’t worry, my sweet girl. I promise that with me, you will always know when you have an orgasm.”
I don’t want to be the one that he wants when he’s unhappy with his life. I refuse to be his dirty little secret. It’s back to dreaming about prince charming since mine was a cheater in disguise.I’m the dreamer who lives in romance novels, but I have to believe that my soulmate is out there. I have to hold out for the right man. The man who will love me for me. Who wants to be with only me.
Publisher synopsis
Carrigan Castle may be broken but she’s finally free. Free of the bonds holding her back. Free of her painful past. Free just to be. With the death of her mother, it’s time to leave her small town behind and find her own way—even if it means letting go of her ideals.
A cross-country trip is about to take her to a brand-new life she never imagined. When Whit Barklay unexpectedly enters the picture, she begins the ride of her life—one filled with thrills and twists and turns. It’s time to figure out where she belongs. It’s time to find her way. Will Whit detour Carrigan from finding her true chance at happiness? Or will he be her North Star, pointing her to a better life with him?
One cross-country train ride to a brand-new life.
One man she never expected.
One relationship she’s too scared to begin.
One risk she may not be willing to take . . .
Unless he can show her she’s only bent and not broken.
