I love this book! There’s something about a story of people fighting love that gets to me. I don’t know why. All I know is that the sexual tension in this book is fabulous. I adore a man who isn’t afraid to be in love, and I adore the way Jack fights for what he wants from Jenna. The great love story, quirky families and scary action make this one a MUST READ! Shatter by Erin McCarthy
Shatter is a typical college romance but with more heartbreak. I like that Kylie is your normal, everyday college co-ed. She’s down in the dumps over a cheating boyfriend and she’s failing chemistry. That was me a few years ago… Jonathon made this book. He’s nerdy and funny and I enjoyed the way he over-analyzed everything with his logic. There was definitely some heart break and I felt the emotions from both Kylie and Jonathon. I loved the writing, the story flowed well and was easy to read. [August 2014]

Screwdrivered by Alice Clayton
Alice Clayton’s funny, quick wit shines in Screwdrivered. Viv finds herself in an unfamiliar town and trying to catch the eye of a hot cowboy. The town librarian, however, may be just as appealing. Screwdrivered is a very relaxed read. You will not find a frenzied pace. Pick it up when you’re in the mood for a fun and sweet story that’s low in drama and high in humor. [September 2014]

Debt Inheritance by Pepper Winters
First, I want to say that this book is not for everyone. Not because it’s not worth reading, but because it has dubious consent in many sexual situations. That said, Debt Inheritance is a very interesting start to a story, one different from many I’ve read. And thank goodness this is fantasy because I would hate to think this kind of situation happened in real life. (I’m not as naive as to think situations like the one Nila goes through don’t happen in some capacity; her story could be a catalyst for teaching us about human trafficking and how to end it.) Overall, I’m recommending Debt Inheritance for a mind-fuck story, and one that left me wanting to know more about Nila and how she overcomes her situation. [August 2014]
Yeah, this is some dark stuff. And I don’t mean dark in just a twisty angsty way. I mean dark in a seriously effed up way. This is not (at this point) a twisted story that happens to have dubious consent in it; this is dubious consent that happens to have a story in it. If Jethro Hawk were a real man, I would punch him in his giant dick. I hate him, and he turns me on, and I hate myself a little bit for being turned on. That said… I totally wanna know what happens next. I usually don’t toss out this heavy of a warning on a book, but I felt it necessary. [August 2014]

Worth Forgiving by Vi Keeland
Worth Forgiving has a few things I’m currently addicted to in my reading: a strong heroine who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, a dirty talking hero who knows he’s found a good woman and fights for her, suspense, and hot times in and out of the sheets. Lily and Jax are pulled towards each other from the beginning, and Jax makes it his job to not only help her with the business but also fall for him. Even though Jax has family demons he’s trying to avoid, he makes Lily his priority, and Lily reciprocates the help. Of course, there is some drama that interrupts the relationship, and both pull back at different parts of the story, but they know they’re meant for each and worth forgiving for the lies and missteps. Thin Love by Eden Butler
This story will have you reaching for tissues, yet smiling through the tears. It will have you gasping with indignation and fury, yet cheering at the end. It will have your heart beating faster during poignant moments and the bedroom scenes. Kona and Keira’s journey from college sweethearts to bitter ex-lovers to second-chance lovers is one worth taking a dozen times over, because there is always some nuance missed in the story and writing. The prose will stun you, sweep you up and make you think, then set you down on your feet again. I will admit to a book hangover after this story, because of all the emotions I was feeling while reading the beginning of their story in college, the heartbreak during and after they part ways, and then their second chance 16 years later as jaded adults. Take Me On by Cherrie Lynn
Most of the books we read have an older, more experienced guy and a young innocent woman. It’s nice to see Cherrie Lynn turn that tired trope on its ear. Gabriella Ross is several years older than our hero, Ian Rhodes. Ian does not come to the table without experience, though. He exerts a beautiful amount of control over Gabby and works extra hard to keep in her good graces. And their sexin’ is blistering hot! [August 2014]

Black Lies by Alessandra Torre
Sweet lady mother of pearl, I loved this book. Alessandra had a lot to live up to after I gave another of her books, Sex, Love, Repeat, 5-stars because she’s once again bringing a controversial situation to us with the “cheating” storyline. I know some of you refuse to even start a book that has even a hint of cheating, so this is specifically for you guys: READ. THIS. BOOK. For serious.
Look into my baby blues — hold on, let me take off my glasses — and listen to the words that are coming out of my face: READ. THIS. BOOK.
Trust me. Black Lies is so well-written, so undeniably sexy, so mind-twisty and lovely and tear-jerky and so much more than you expect.
Whoa….
Ok, that was not what I expected. Not what I expected at all. Whoa… There is little I can say about this book without ruining it for you, other than to say: Mind fuckery. Layana is in love with two men, but trust me, you haven’t read this story before. Alessandra Torre continues to surprise me with every new story and this one… well you’ll just have to read it yourself.
Mind: Fucked.
Emotional, sexy, twisty brilliance.
Black Lies, indeed. ~KJ -
Breathe by Kristen Ashley
Breathe will put you through the wringer of emotions, but it is so worth it. I love this couple. You have the sweet, shy, virgin who’s loved the tarnished knight from afar. Chace, who has so much baggage to overcome, feels he is too dirty to have the maiden, Faye. Now, throw in the usual conglomeration of awesome side characters in a Kristen Ashley novel, a dose of suspense, a heart breaking side plot and you have one hell of a ride. Be ready with the Kleenex in some parts and a friend on speed-dial when your heart starts to break. Don’t worry, we all know KA leaves us with an awesome Epilogue to highlight her HEA’s. [August 2014]
Chace and Faye, one of my very favorite KA couples. He’s a cop, a true hero. She’s a sweet, quirky librarian who lives for romance books and Star Trek. They bond over helping a homeless kid and trying to solve the murders and corruption going on in Carnal. Breathe is their love story. It’s sexy and easy and intense all at once. Definitely a KA favorite!! [August 2014]

Rival by Penelope Douglas
I fell in love with Madoc in Bully. Even though he was an ass, I knew there was more to him. Enter Fallon, Madoc’s step-sister. They never got along as teenagers, and when they finally hooked up, Fallon disappeared without a word. Suddenly she’s back in Madoc’s house for a short time, and the sparks immediately start flying. From the outside it looks like they hate each other, but the sexual tension is obvious. We get more Jared and Tate and a lot of Jax. This story is about second chances. It’s sweet but incredibly hot. Like scorching hot. Bravo Penelope Douglas! [August 2014]
This story had a little of the forbidden, two step-siblings that fall in love, but are ripped apart by lies. We see the story from both POV’s, both present and past tense, so that we are fully ingrained in the story. Though these are high schoolers, this does not read like a normal New Adult novel. I almost forgot their ages throughout the book because the writing draws you in, the story is maddening, heartbreaking, funny and sexy, and so mature for a normal NA story. I also enjoyed seeing characters from the previous books, adding more depth to everyone’s stories, and also the lead-in to the next book. This book surpassed how much I enjoyed Tate and Jared’s story in Bully, you will not be disappointed. [August 2014] -
A Note in the Margin by Isabelle Rowan
It’s been a while since I savored a book like this. I loved everything about it, but especially the small bookstore setting. There is something about leaving a stressful job to take over a bookshop and the apartment above it that just speaks to me on some basic level, so I was always going to love this book. But it became so much more than that with the wonderful, three-dimensional characters. I loved John for his understandable, if not very noble reaction to the homeless guy in his store at first, because it felt real. The way he grows as a person thanks to David is a lovely journey I wouldn’t want you to miss out on. Highly recommended read. [August 2014]

Exiled by Jill Elaine Hughes
Exiled blurs the lines between NA and erotica, and I love it! Libby and Blake have instant chemistry, and when I say instant, I mean they meet then immediately find a quiet place to get to know each other better. ahem It’s hot and steamy with some bondage scenes and a little bit of domination. There’s a lot more to come of their story, and I can’t wait! [August 2014]

Seducing Lauren by Kristen Proby
I love Kristen Proby’s take on modern romance, and Seducing Lauren is no exception. I was really pleased to see the move away from Western for this series and back to the Contemporary Romance genre. Lauren is dealing with some stuff — some ex-husband stuff, some secret job stuff — and doesn’t have time to deal with Ty and his hot-tattooed-lawyerness. The story took some twists and turns that I was not expecting, and Kristen’s quality dialogue keeps it moving along. This small town tale was modern and relatable. Nice work! [August 2014]

Bully by Penelope Douglas
Heartbreaking. That’s the best word to describe this story. As kids, Tate and Jared were best friends. Then one day it all changed and Jared pushed Tate away by bullying and embarrassing her. How anyone could survive that kind of torment, especially from the boy that used to be her best friend, is totally beyond me. But she did. Not only did Tate survive it, it made her strong. Strong enough to get through to the boy who bullied her to find her friend that was buried underneath. Bully is a beautiful coming of age story about love and trust and forgiveness.

Flesh by Kylie Scott
I’m not really a zombie fan, personally. Gore isn’t my thing either. But after reading Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive (holy hawt rock stars) series, I needed more Kylie, so I bought me some zombie ménage erotica. Don’t worry, though, [SPOILER] there’s no zombie sex (maybe not much of a spoiler).
Having said all that, I absolutely loved this book. The story moved along at a quick pace, it was action packed, but not overdone. There was gore, but I didn’t lose my lunch over it. I did lose some sleep; not from nightmares, though, but because I couldn’t stop reading. And the love story was intense and sweet all at the same time. It’s not just hot sex and ménage (there is definitely hot sex and ménage), but there’s more too—we get to watch the main characters grow and adapt to this new world and find love, trust, and friendship among the chaos and violence, and treachery. And the banter—the banter alone is worth the flashes of gore. But then, Kylie Scott just has a way of being funny in any situation, which is pretty much why this is a super high recommend for my adventurous paranormal and ménage lovers. [August 2014]

Lover Undercover by Samanthe Beck
This is the perfect book when you’re in the mood for something light and quick. It’s not exactly fluffy—there’s murder and suspense, and you get to use some investigative skills while enjoying the hot and sexy tension between the main characters. Oh and super duper bonus: virgin. Well, it’s a bonus for me. But I’m a weirdo virgin perv, so no one should be too surprised. So, obviously, the combination of alpha law enforcement hero plus innocent bad girl virgin heroine equals super steamy, change-your-underwear sexy times.
I’m definitely going to be reading the rest of this series. All the McCade brothers are super hot. [August 2014]

Hard to Hold On To by Laura Kaye
Laura Kaye has a true talent for getting a whole story in a novella. In Hard to Hold On To, we get some serious insight into Easy Cantrell’s psyche, and it’s not pretty. The book picks up from the end of the last and Jenna Dean has just faced some major drama. Easy eases into the role of protector and works his way closer to Jenna’s heart. Easy is fighting some major internal battles, though. Can he figure out what he needs to get past them? Highly Recommended [August 2014]

Second Helpings by Charlie Cochrane
This book is just a giant pile of Awwww… I mean, the grief is so real I felt for Stuart. He’s in a dark place and he wants to pretend he’s okay with it, but he’s not really. So when Paul comes along and turns his world upside down all over again, I was clutching my pearls and rooting for them from the first time they meet. A fairly short read, but lovely, with a great, humorous tone to it. [August 2014]

Embracing the Fall by Lainey Reese
A unique BDSM ménage story from Lainey Reese with an authentic-feeling power exchange dynamic, creative BDSM scenes, and a ménage with two submissive women who share one Dominant, all without being catty or jealous?—yes, please. This story is about healing and friendship and love. It’s so much more than just hot kinky sex. But the sex is definitely hot and kinky.
The friendship between Ziporah and Cami comes through in all their interactions—their affection and loyalty towards each other—and adds another layer to their relationship with Evan, their Dom. Evan is a powerhouse of sex and dominance and…hotness…for lack of a better word. His chemistry with Z and Cami just jumps off the page. And did I mention that he drips sex? And there is a lot of sex. A lot of kink.
I did wish for a bit more conflict and drama at some points, personally. That’s the only reason this story didn’t get a full 5 stars from me.
Lainey Reese really knows how to get the power exchange dynamic and she *gets* the kink, which is why I love her so, and I am anticipating her next installment in the New York series with bated breath. I love these characters and can’t wait to see what the next couple has in store for us. [August 2014]

How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo
YOU GUYS. You FUCKING guys. Look here. Listen up. This doesn’t happen to me very often. Not very cussing often at all. But when it DOES happen? Holy damn, it happens.
While I will thoroughly enjoy a great many things, I don’t lose my noodle over a whole hell of a lot.But dude…
I’ve lost my noodle for How to Kill a Rock Star.
You guys, look at me, look into my laser-boob eyes and listen to me.
READ. THIS. BOOK.
It’s a standalone, contemporary romance, that isn’t super smutty — WAIT A MINUTE WAIT A MINUTE, STAY WITH ME HERE.
I’m TELLING you.
I’m TELL. ING. YOU.
READ.
THIS.
BOOK.
I’m not even coming to you as a reviewer right now. I’m just Kyleigh. A reader. A lover of finding the needle in a haystack stories, and telling you “Eureka! I FOUND IT. It’s HERE, you guys!”
For everyone who has ever turned the last page of a book and felt fucking REBORN — read this book. This is a very special story, written in a very special voice. Tear your heart out, break you, restore you, change your life, and save your heathen souls. Deep breaths. Trust me. Please.
I love Paul goddamn Hudson so much it makes my pancreas hurt.
DO NOT MISS THIS STORY. [August 2014] -
Show Me, Baby by Cherise Sinclair (1001 Dark Nights)
Diving right into the Shadowlands (one of my favorite series ever) was such a pleasure, as always. Cherise Sinclair wove yet another engrossing, sexy story about a beautiful, bratty submissive with a troubled past. And, of course, a hunky dominant—a Shadowlands Master, no less—who took over her hormones and carved out a place in her heart.
Rainie and Master Jake’s story was a perfect combination of HAWT, fun, and heartbreaking (at times), that I couldn’t put it down (and you won’t be able to either). It might be worth mentioning that Cherise Sinclair is on my very short auto-buy list. I’d read her grocery list and probably ask for the sequel afterwards. She’s just that good. So, no surprise that Show Me, Baby is MUST READ for my kinky, alpha male lovers. [August 2014] -
One More Night by Lauren Blakely
You know what we need in life, more Clay and Julia. Everything looked great for them at the end of After This Night, but it turns out things are not as they seem. Our hot-as-blazes couple takes a trip to Sin City and do they sin! I love that Lauren brings the sex AND the intrigue to this post-HEA story. Highly Recommended [August 2014]

Elicit by Rachel Van Dyken
Tex has always been a highlight of this series, the comic relief. But this is a different Tex. He’s the Capo, the Godfather of the entire Mafia, and he has to choose between his blood and the family that raised him. This Tex is dark, dangerous and scary. An then there is Mo. She’s strong and sassy and she’s Tex’s weakness. Their story is heartbreaking. It’s dangerous and violent and sweet. Emotions run high and I felt every one. There were lots of surprises in this one. No one writes the Mafia as well as Rachel Van Dyken. It’s dark but funny, full of family and love. I couldn’t put it down. [August 2014]

Let Love Live by Melissa Collins
You know the best part about this book? This is the first one in the series I picked up, and now I get to read ALL THE OTHER ONES. (And since I’m usually a M/M-only girl, that’s saying something.) I’m pretty sure I can survive on Kindle and water for a week. No but seriously, this book? Worth every single penny and then some. I don’t often reread but I already know when I’m done with book 4, I’ll have my cute button nose buried right into Let Love Live again, because the writing is awesome, and it’s storytelling at its best. I realize I’m gushing but I just don’t care. READ IT. ~ Solange [August 2014]

Temptation by Robin Covington
Who doesn’t love a good damsel in distress story? Now add in a hot and sexy firefighter with a hero complex and you have the start of something good. The chemistry between Kit and Max is smoking, that man can kiss the daylights out of anyone. Even though we all know how a “no-strings attached” relationship ends with a HEA, we get a rollercoaster ride with these two. We have backstabbing, stalking tabloid reporters, angry music company employees, more hot firefighters, and scarred hearts that run away from a good thing. Kit and Max are put through the wringer, which makes the ending all the more sweeter. Plus, the sexy times (in and out of the bedroom) are HOT. You won’t go wrong with this story. ~ Marissa [August 2014]

Kill Devil Hills by Sarah Darlington
I was in love with Georgie and Noah from the first page. She’s 18 and he’s 24 and her sister’s best friend. They’re brought together by tragedy, but from that tragedy Noah starts to see Georgie as a woman, not his best friend’s little sister. Their story is real. It’s sweet and emotional and I loved watching them grow together as a couple. The writing is fantastic and the story never slows. If you’re looking for something short but chock full of emotion, this is the book for you! [August 2014]
-
Talent to Burn by Laura Welling
Talent to Burn gives you a bad boy, a girl on the run, and threats all around them, with some wicked plot twists. I enjoyed this story, how you weren’t quite sure what was coming around the next corner, and I felt the suspense mixed well with the mystery aspects.
The banter between Cat and Jamie was sometimes sexy and sometimes funny, the perfect compliments within the storyline.
Jamie is always saving Cat, and eventually Cat gets to return the favor once she comes in to her powers.
There may have been some nail-biting towards the end during the rescue. I’m definitely intrigued to see where this new author goes, whether this will be a series or not. [August 2014] -
Six of Hearts by L.H. Cosway
I didn’t want to put this book down. Hell, fire, brimstone, plague of locusts? Come at me world! I would stop for nothing.
“I can’t quit you, Six of Hearts!”Jay Fields has landed a spot on my (very exclusive) Book Boyfriend list. Damn, that man will melt your heart and your panties. This alpha-hottie illusionist is fierce, tender hearted, and ridiculously funny. Major swoon. The diologue and the relationship that develops between Jay and shy Matilda is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. And the nicknames! ADORABLE. I can not say enough about how much I loved this story.
LH Cosway is a personal favorite of mine who never disappoints in delivering sexy unique stories. I urge you to take a chance on this book. You won’t regret it.
-
Rogue by Katy Evans
Rogue is probably my favorite of the series so far. The two main characters were great together, and the writing was definitely different than the other three books. Greyson has two different lives, and they crash together when he meets Melanie. He struggles throughout, trying to protect her from his secret and dangerous life as Zero, while trying to claim her as his own when he’s just Greyson. Melanie is always the happy friend, but she has a secret she’s trying to fix without involving her friends, because she was witness to the drama Brooke had to go through for her sister. Katy Evans writes in dual POV, so we can really see how Greyson and Melanie affect each other, the drama they are dealing with outside of their relationship, and also see characters that only interact with Zero or Melanie with Greyson.
Note: There is no licking in this story, so if that annoyed you with Remy, you’re safe reading this one. [August 2014]

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Colleen Hoover makes normal words into pretty things that create sentences. If that doesn’t make sense in your head, climb inside mine, because it makes complete sense in here. But my head is completely drowning in tears right now, so I might not make much sense, and I’m definitely not making pretty things out of normal words like Colleen did in Ugly Love. Not since Hopeless has she made me ugly cry this much for fictional characters. Now all I want to do is snuggle up with her so we can talk about all of the feels. Oh, and while she’s kissing my head and rubbing my back, I want to thank her for writing the hottest book she’s written so far. (If you’re reading this, Colleen, thanks for the future back rub and the fictional sex in Ugly Love.) Is Ugly Love worth your hard-earned dollars? Yes. Absolutely. Completely.
